Hi. I am Virginia Humphrey, the illustrator of the Candy Cow stories.
My mom, R. Elaine Chaklos, wrote many of the Candy Cow stories when I was young. She is still coming up with new ideas today.
She asked me if I would draw some pictures for her. She wanted to publish her stories. I have always liked to paint, but I am not an artist and tried to talk her into using other people several times. She declined. And I am so glad she did. Drawing for the Candy Cow stories brings me so much joy. Even though I was hesitant, because I didn’t want to fail my mom, I was, and still am thrilled to help.
She is an amazing woman who is kind, funny, and the most ethical person I know. She is also too modest to write anything about herself, so I am doing this page for her. And once she sees it, she may very well make me take it down- so read about how great she is while you still can.
She raised two kids, my brother and myself, and she instilled in us a strong sense of right and wrong, and continues to give us as much love as we could possibly ask for.
Now that I am a mother of a sweet, precious boy, I understand how hard she worked to be an amazing mom and how lucky I am. If I can be half the mother she is, I know I will have served my boy well.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope I have given you a sense of the woman who is bringing you Candy Cow.
